There are many questions below, found on other sites and from various questionnaires and examinations. You may find them helpful in your understanding of the Rules. You can either use it as a test for yourself, or as a learning experience. You can use the index, or go through the questions in the numerical sequence. Q1 - Opponent is taking a lot of time while preparing to serve, and delays play unnecessarily. Q2 - Opponent's nose starts to bleed during play in the fourth game. The Referee allows recovery time, during which opponent's nosebleed stops and play is resumed. However, the nosebleeding recurs in the next game. Q3 - Player hits own leg with own racket and starts to bleed. Player stops play. Q4 - Opponent hits player with racket intentionally and player starts to bleed. Q5 - Opponent accidentally hits player's hand with racket and player starts to bleed. No crowding or excessive swing. Q6 - Opponent hits a shot in which the player believes the ball strikes the opponent's racket more than once. Referee agrees with player. Q7 - During a rally, opponent appeals for interference, but then proceeds to play the ball for a good return. Player stops play because of the appeal. Opponent immediately goes to serve. Interference did occur that prevented the opponent playing a winning return. |

Q8 - Opponent gets too close to player trying to anticipate player's shot. Player is forced awkwardly to avoid opponent's premature advances. Player would have been able to hit winning shot. Q9 - Opponent serves overarm (as a tennis serve) extremely hard. Player does not attempt to return the serve, appealing that opponent "may not serve overarm". Q10 - Instead of playing the ball while in space, player waits and retreats in such a way that opponent is backed up against the back wall. Player then appeals due to interference on swing. Q11 - Opponent serves and serve is not good. Opponent goes to opposite service box and attempts to serve again. Q12 - Opponent plays a dropshot into a front corner just above the board. Player goes to play shot. Opponent runs up just behind player, so close that whatever shot player attempted may result in injury to opponent. Q13 - Opponent plays one forehand shot with the racket in the right hand, then plays another forehand shot, but this time with the racket in the left hand. This looks confusing and player appeals for distraction. Q14 - Opponent plays a drive to the back of the court which slightly strikes opponent's own clothing on the rebound off the back wall and marginally slows the ball. Player is not in a position to reach the ball. |

Q15 - Late in the match, the opponent dives to retrieve the ball and hits a good return. Player stops and appeals for distraction. Player could have reached the ball and played a good return. Q16 - Player serves and opponent returns the ball. Player stops and appeals that ball is broken. Referee confirms this and decides that the ball broke on that service. Q17 - Player serves and opponent returns the ball to the back of the court. Player goes to play the ball but thought that the bounce was odd. Player hits ball and the return does not sound right. Player stops and appeals that ball is broken. Referee confirms this. Opponent appeals that ball was broken on earlier rally, which opponent lost. Q18 - Opponent hits return of serve while standing in same side of court as server served from. Player appeals for distraction. Q19 - Player hits opponent with the racket during the swing. Q20 - Opponent hits a loose shot that goes through the center of the court. Player attempts to volley but having started the stroke decides that the ball is too close to opponent for safe play. Player stops that attempt and goes for a further attempt. The ball then stops in the back-wall nick and is unreturnable. Player now asks for a let. Q21 - Player makes a loose dropshot. Opponent gets to this ball, puts body between player and ball (effectively hiding next shot from player). Opponent plays winning dropshot response. Player claims let on grounds of fair view. Q22 - During a rally, the player's safety glasses fall to the floor. Both players continue with the rally, until at some point in the rally, player, as striker, stops play and asks for a let in the interest of safety. Q23 - Opponent hits the ball so that it travels between opponent's own legs on the return from the front wall. Ball does not touch the opponent and the player is too far away to be able to reach the ball. Q24 - Opponent serves the ball which hits the front wall close to but below the service line. Player does not attempt to return the service. Q25 - Opponent serves the ball which hits the front wall and the ball just touches the service line. Player does not attempt to return the service. Q26 - Opponent serves the ball which hits the front wall close to but above the service line. Player does not attempt to return the service. Q27 - Player (in non-turning situation) hits the ball which hits the opponent before hitting a side-wall, and the ball would have reached the front wall, and the opponent would not have been able to continue in the rally (i.e., the player hit a winning shot). Q28 - Player (in non-turning situation) hits the ball which hits the opponent before hitting a side-wall, and the ball would have reached the front wall, and the opponent would not have been able to continue in the rally (i.e., the player hit a winning shot). Q29 - Player (in non-turning situation) hits the ball which hits the opponent before hitting a side-wall, but the ball would not have reached the front wall. Q30 - After the opponent's shot, the player expects a ball to travel down the left side of the court only to find that the ball has hit the front-wall nick and is now traveling down the middle of the court. After preparing to play the ball on the backhand, the player moves the racket across the body to take the ball on the forehand, without turning and without the ball passing the player (i.e., the ball is always in front of the player). The player hits the ball which then hits the opponent while on its way to the front wall. Q31 - Player allows the ball to pass round the body, without any actual move towards turning their own body (also called 'mental turning'). Player strikes ball, which hits the opponent, who is accidentally in the way. Q32 - Player turns through 360 degrees, with the ball moving around the player's body, before the player attempts to hit the ball. Player strikes ball, which hits the opponent, who has deliberately stepped into the path of the ball. Q33 - Player turns through 360 degrees, with the ball moving around the player's body, before the player attempts to hit the ball. Player strikes the ball, which hits the opponent, who is accidentally in the way. Q34 - Opponent in front of T plays a dropshot in the front corner. Opponent moves away, but slowly. Player could reach the ball and could have played a good return, but stops and appeals. Q35 - Opponent in front of T plays a dropshot in the front corner. Opponent moves away. Player could reach the ball and could have played a good return, but stops and appeals. Q36 - Opponent in front of T plays a dropshot in the front corner. Opponent does not move away. Player could reach the ball and could have played a good return.
