WILLIAM STUART YOUNG was bom at Invercargill
on 3 March 1931 to parents Robert
Stanley and Louise
Gertrude (Shirley) Young. He attended Orepuki Primary
School and Southland Technical College. He worked on the
home farm and at the Orepuki Cheese Factory. He married Jennifer May Lee* at Orepuki on 23 April 1954. They began their farming career on a small dairy unit in the Pahia district, before moving to a larger unit at Longwood (near Riverton). Stuart also started a hay baling business at Pahia. They have a family of five children - Phillip Warren born on 11 June 1956, Janice Elizabeth born on 26 October 1957, Shirlene Jennifer born on 19 May 1960, Leonie Gaye born on 24 November 1961 and Karen Louise (rather an after-thought but a big bonus!) born on 22 June 1967. The family moved to Timaru in January 1974, where Stuart started his own business of painting and home renovating. Stuart and Jenny lived with their four daughters at 31 Rhodes Street, then moved with the two younger daughters to 45 Bames Street in 1979. They moved to a duplex at 48B Kitchener Square in 1999 to enjoy their semi-retired life. In 2006, an opportunity arose to move back into a more farm-like atmosphere when daughter Shirlene and her partner (now husband) Mark Nossiter purchased a farm property with the idea of building their own house. Stuart and Jenny now live in the farm's original house at 53 Beaconsfield Road, Timaru, taking care of the animals together with Mark. Stuart still does the odd painting job, and really enjoys gardening. He has now almost retired from all sports, but Jenny is still active in lawn bowls. * The Lee family history is in preparation. |
