RONALD HENRY YOUNG was bom on 16
December 1922 (where ?) to parents William
and Mary Elizabeth (George) Young. He
attended St George Primary School and Southland,.Technical College. He,joined the Invercargill Garrison Band while still
at school, and at the age of 19, during World War II was accepted by the army
and joined the Military Band at Burnham Military Camp. When overseas. Ron
played in numerous concert tours, in Egypt, Palestine, Syria and also played
with the English Guards Bands and other Service bands (which period ?). On his return to NZ, Ron had some success as a soloist comet player. He married Patricia Mary Bowman and, after moving to Christchurch with his family in 1956, he joined the Skellerup Woolston Band, having many successes at National Championships in NZ as well as Manchester and Edinburgh in England in 1975, and Australia in 1980. He did some conducting, as well as teaching young players, his two sons included, in the band with him. Ron was sales manager in Invercargill for Chas Begg and on shifting to Christchurch, held the same position in the Christchurch branch prior to establishing his own Music and Appliance store in Riccarton. Ron and Patricia have 3 children - Graham Richard was born on 28 November 1947 (where ?), Barbara Mary was born on 17 February 1951 (where ?) and Kenneth William was born on 11 November 1955 (where ?).
