| ROBERT JOHN YOUNG was bom at Tuatapere on 3
December 1951 of parents James
Owen and Ellen Mary
(King) Young. He was educated at Pahia Primary and
Southland Boys High School and graduated B. Sc from Otago
University. While working at the Treasury, he then
extended his economic studies at Victoria University
before going to London in June 1976. Travelling extensively in Europe and the U.K. and following the All Blacks around, Rob then settled into consultancy temp (October 1976) , before returning to Auckland via various jobs in January 1980. He married Nicola Ann Hardy on 2 June 1980 in Auckland and joined NZ Insurance as an Investment Analyst in August 1980. While in Auckland he began a postgraduate diploma in business and administration, which he completed in Singapore after being transferred there in November 1982. With N.Z.I. in Singapore he rose to General Manager of N.Z.I. Investment Services in July 1986 before joining Indosuez Asset Management in June 1988 as Managing Director. Rob was a keen rugby and tennis player, playing rugby for both Orepuki and Riverton Clubs, and represented his region in the junior grade. A little social rugby at University, where scuba diving was also enjoyed, he later played rugby for Wellington College Old Boys and the Singapore Cricket Club. He enjoys tennis, squash and golf. Rob and Nicola had a daughter, Rebecca Jane, who was bom on 4 May 1984 in Singapore. They returned to NZ in January 1991 and lived at 69 Halesowen Avenue, Mt Eden, Auckland where Rob had returned to his consultancy work. The couple divorced in November 1994. Rob met his new partner Leone Rosemary Ward in June 1994 and they lived together in Remuera, Auckland for a time. Rob was promoted to Investment Strategy Manager for Royal Sun Alliance and after a number of mergers the job was moved to Auckland. Rob and Leone purchased an orchard and house in November 1998 on Dillons Point Road in Blenheim for which they achieved Full Bio-Gro Organic certification for lemons, pears, limes and cherries.
