| KENNETH WILLIAM YOUNG was bom on 11 November
1955 to parents Ronald
Henry and Patricia
Mary (Bowman) Young (where ?). Educated at Beckenham
Primary School and Cashmere High, Christchurch, he now
studies music at Canterbury and Auckland Universities, as
well as composition and conducting studies in U.S.A. and
Europe. Ken married Josephine Mary Harris (when ? where ?). His life mainly centres around his music. He has been the principal tuba player with the NZ Symphony Orchestra since 1976. He has toured England and China, etc., and was the principal percussionist in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in 1973, 74 and 75. He has conducted the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra on several occasions, and written works commissioned by them and also the Music Federation of NZ, Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council and Radio NZ. Ken was also active in sport at high school level, playing in the first XV at Rugby and first XI at cricket. Ken and Josephine have two children - Sarah Virginia was bom on 23 July 1980 (where ?) and Ruth Josephine was bom on 27 November 1984 (where ?). The family live at 32 Nottingham Street, Karori, Wellington. |
