YOUNG family history

Dawn Esther McCleery 1941-

DAWN ESTHER McCLEERY was born on 21 September 1941, in Invercargill to parents Walker and Edith McCleery. Dawn attended North Invercargill Primary and later Southland Technical College. Her father was born in Orepuki, and went to school with the youngest of the Young family (who?). Dawn started an after-school position while still at High School with the firm of Harry Septimus Young, H.S. Young Ltd., then run by Bevan Lyall Young. William Young's son Albert Stanley (Bert) also worked for the firm and that's how Dawn met her first husband, Bert's second son, Errol Ernest Stanley.

Dawn remembers William Young: "One day when I was working, this elderly man came into the shop, he was breathing heavily and appeared quite unwell. Everyone seemed to know him and rushed around getting him a chair and a cuppa. He instantly recognised me and it turned out that I had met him several times when I was visiting my grandfather Alexander McCleery in hospital a few years before. This elderly man was William and he was obviously a friend of my grandfather through their Orepuki connections."

She married Errol on 14 April 1960 at the Central Methodist Church, Invercargill, and they had three children (all born at Queen Victoria Hispital, Invercargill) - their son Gary David was born on 16 July 1961 (where ?), and two daughters - Tania Marie was born on 6 September 1963 (where ?) and Suzanne Sheree was born on 13 December 1964l. The family lived in Invercargill until 1970, when they moved to Cromwell, owning 'Errol's Restaurant' until 1973.

The couple divorced in 1975 while still living in Cromwell. Dawn then moved with her three children to Dunedin and then married William James Paterson on 10 November 1978 in Dunedin. They are now retired and living in Long Beach, 25 km North of Dunedin.
